A graduate from the Sculpture Department of Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts at the age of 15, he worked as a restorer of Buddhist sculptures but then changed direction and apprenticed as a chef at the renowned Jinjiang Hotel in Shanghai. He travelled to Japan for three years to study Japanese cuisine. On returning, his professional life went through many ups and downs. He opened ‘Miaoji Cooked Food Stall’ in the first half of 2015, but it closed down. He mainly sells seafood products now, but his desire to utilise his cooking skills simmers.
During an auspicious, half-day operation of his ‘Miaoji Yellow Croaker Fish Noodles Stall’, Boss Miao will demonstrate his refined selection of ingredients and incomparable cooking techniques by preparing his richly flavourful dishes. An atlas recording stories of his life and of the people he has encountered in Ningbo, Hangzhou, Shanghai, and Tokyo will be provided to all participants.
